A PUNCH IS NOT JUST A PUNCH
A PUNCH IS JUST A PUNCH...TO MOST STUDENTS.. THEY JUST CLOSE THEIR HAND INTO A FIST...AND START PUNCHING A BAG. TO HAVE A BETTER PUNCH THEY JUST TRY TO HIT HARDER...IT IS PURE PHYSICAL TRAIN WITHOUT ANY THOUGHT..... NOW IN THE BEGINNING...THAT IS HOW BRUCE LEE TRAINED...HE FELT THE MORE TIMES HE PUNCHED...THE BETTER HE WOULD GET....BUT BRUCE QUICKLY REALIZED A PROBLEM....IN HONG KONG....HIS OPPONENTS WERE ALL ABOUT HIS SAME SIZE....5' 7" AND 135 LBS WAS AVERAGE FOR MOST STREET FIGHTERS...AND BRUCE HANDLED HIMSELF WELL AGAINST THEM.....HOWEVER....HIS FIRST AMERICAN STUDENTS WERE ALL MUCH BIGGER AND STRONGER THAN HIM...SOME OVER A HUNDRED POUNDS......BRUCES PUNCHES TO THEM WERE LIKE A BEE STING......THIS WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM TO BRUCE.....SINCE IT TOOK A LOT MORE EFFORT TO CONTROL AND STOP FROM BEING HIT....AND ALSO...BRUCE KNEW IF HE WAS HIT...HE COULD REALLY BE HURT OR BEATEN.....SO PUNCHING BECAME A MAJOR FOCUS OF OUR TRAINING ......HOW TO PUNCH MORE EFFECTIVLY. BRUCE LOOKED AT PUNCHING FROM THREE PERSPECTIVES.... THE BIO-MECHANICS....THE POWER....AND THE TARGET. I WILL GO OVER THESE THREE ELEMENTS IN SEPARATE MODULES...HERE I JUST WANT TO INTRODUCE THE CONCEPT IN THE SCIENCE OF PUNCHING. FIRST.....THE BIO-MECHNAICS.....COVERED STUDING THE VERITAL FIST VERSUS THE HORIZONTAL FIST....AND WAS THERE A DIFFERENCE, WHICH WE FOUND THERE WAS....POWERLINES OR THE BEST STRUCTURE TO TRANSFER ENERGY WITH MINIMAL LOSS ....AND THE METHOD OF STRIKE...WHETHER TO DRIVE THROUGH THE TARGET OR USE A CONCUSSION STRIKE AND FINALLY...THE PROPER ANGLE TO HIT THE TARGET...TO MAXIMIZE THE EFFECT ......AND SECOND.... HOW TO INCREASE...EXPAND...OR AMPLIFY NATURAL POWER....WITHOUT HAVING TO TENSE UP AND REDUCE TRAPPING ENERGY FLOW AND ....THIRD.....KNOWING THE BEST TARGET TO END THE CONFLICT. IT WAS THIS TYPE OF ANALYZING OF TECHNIQUE THAT MADE BRUCE .....THE "FITTEST WARRIOR".
